Book Review: Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

Fire and lightning raised Maven up, and fire and lightning will bring him down.

Hey book nation!

I’m sorry if this review isn’t necessarily the best. I have actually written it before and it just decided to delete on me *definietly not annoyed (please note sarcasm)*

warning: Spoilers for Red Queen

Pages: 499

My Rating: 4.5/5

Release date:9th of February 2016

Series: Second book in the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard

Issue: paperback, brought

My thoughts:

The only reason I don’t think I can give this book a 5/5 is because, until the last 150 pages there wasn’t anything about the book that kept me racing to see what happened next. It was still extremely interesting but didn’t have me wanting to stay up all night reading.

But with that said, I did really enjoy this book. I loved all the bits and pieces and plot twist. Even if the last one killed me and left me here to deal with my feels until the next one is released.

In this book Mare is on the hunt to find newbloods, and she does find a few. Well, more than a few. My only issue with this was that, there were a lot of them to keep up with. I had a little bit of trouble remembering who was who and what abilities they had. However, every now and then Victoria does remind us of some of them, giving the occasion helping hand. (plus you know, if someone starts flying, you remember that they can fly). But I did really love learning about these people and their abilities, they were all so unique and amazing.

I really missed Evangeline in this book. I loved her in the last one, she is so angry but sassy and determined and I loved that! But as far as I know, she wasn’t in this book. And if she was, then she mustn’t have said anything because I do not recall her being in the book.

A lot of people told me before I started to read this one, that the first book was better. But I do not think that is the case. I love both of them, but part of me wants to say this book was better. They are, however, very different considering there is a new mission at hand. It’s really depends on which one you prefer. But I loved this book and don’t believe there were any parts I thought could be left out. But as I said earlier, it didn’t necessarily have me wanting to read 24/7.

In conclusion (sorry this is short, I did have one already written but now since I have lost it, I don’t really rmember what it said) This book was good, incredible even. As far as the plot went, this book was really interesting. and the ending is definitely soul crushing!

Until next time,

  1. So so glad you liked this! I liked Red Queen but felt like I was the minority. Though I skimmed this review bc of possible spoilers, I am glad you liked it bc now I feel better about wanting to read it!
