Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas || Book Review

My Throne of Glass reread is officially over!!! I loved every single moment of this reread and will most likely be completing it again next year before the final book makes it was into my hands.

This series as a whole constantly has me on my toes and racing (and I mean racing) to find out what happens next. Sarah J Maas actually blows my mind away with her writing. If you wouldn’t mind, could you please tell me how it is possible for someone to be this talented at writing???

Empire of Storms especially, but the rest of the series as well, shows just how much effort Sarah J Maas put into this series. There are so many simple and yet so complex details that are put throughout the story that are overlooked and then three books later you are left going “OMG THAT IS WHAT THAT THING MEANT HOW COULD I BE SO STUPID? HOW DID I NOT SEE THAT???”

I do remember reading this book for the first time and hearing a lot of people say that they did not feel connected to Celaena as much as they had been in previous books. I however, feel that this was because there were so many plot lines twisting into each other. This is the book were everything clicks into place.  Although, to be far, there is still a lot more to happen. I do understand why people felt disconnected. It’s because Celaena throughout this book is keeping secrets, massive secrets, and as readers we are meant to feel excluded from these until Celaena pops up out of no where and leaves you saying “OMG THAT IS WHAT THAT THING MEANT HOW COULD I BE SO STUPID? HOW DID I NOT SEE THAT???”

There are so many ships in this book it’s impossible for you not to like one of them. Seriously though, there are so many opportunities for you to jump onboard one of the ships and say goodbye to your social life forever. (Or you could actually go on one of the ships, like boat ships, cause there are plenty of those in this book as well.) From my original read I was mainly team Rowan and Celaena as well as Aedion and Lysandra. But now I have also joined Elide and Lorcan plus Elide and Manon. No Dorian just yet because it kind of felt forced to me, but Dorian and Chaol will always live on forever in my heart.

And that my friends if my 11:53pm review of Empire of Storms, have you read this book? What did you think?? If you ever want to have an in depth conversation about this book or any other feel free to message me on bookstagram

My goodread’s review is here if you want to check it out.

Until next time,

October TBR

It’s almost Halloween and you know what that means??? It’s almost Christmas!!!! (which by the way is my favourite event ever (I love it more than my birthday))

Quick but funny story: In my house there are four seasons, not summer, winter, spirng, autumn, no, we have: Christmas, after Christmas, not Christmas and leading up to Christmas.

Christmas consist of Christmas. After Christmas consist of Christmas songs and discussions of how long we can keep the tree up for. Not Christmas consist of the occasional Christmas song and thinking of when it is a good time to draw secret santa names (this year it was August). Leading up to Christmas consist of putting up the tree, Christmas songs and yelling ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

Back to the October TBR. I figured this month I should just keep it short and sweet with four books.

  1. Now I Rise [Kristen White]
  2. Dividing Eden [Joelle Charbonneau]
  3. Chimera [C.D Bell]
  4. Starborn [Lucy Hounson]

Looking at the list now I see that this month is the month of review-copy books (except Now I Rise). I’m so excited now to see what these books are like.

What are you reading this month?
Until next time,

Tower of Dawn Hopes and Theories

*Clears throat*

*Cracks knuckles*

*Whispers* Let’s do this

This will include spoilers from all the Throne of Glass books (I believe) the major ones come from Queen of Shadows and The Assassin’s Blade but I am assuming most of you know what happens in that book considering you have heard of what Tower of Dawn is about. If you have not, I suggest not reading any further in this post, or reading any description of TOD because you will spoil yourself for Queen of Shadows.

This post is just going to go through the books and point out any foreshadowing I have noticed that might have to do with Tower of Dawn and my feelings about Chaol.

The Assassin’s Blade

In The Assassin and the Healer we met Yrene Towers who after meeting Celaena Sardothien has enough money to finally chase her dream and train in becoming a healer.

My theory, along with pretty much everyone else, is that Chaol will meet Yrene Towers and hopefully she will help him out a little. However, I do not want Chaol “healed”. And this isn’t because I dislike him, it’s because I  have this vision of Chaol sitting in a wheelchair with a bow and arrow kicking ass. He can still be the captain of the guard but now he is doing it from a chair, so be it. I think he will learn to be amazing at shooting an arrow.

Celaena gives a whole heap of – OMG i just had another theory I will come back to this in a second

During the Assassin and the Healer, Celaena teaches Yrene some self-defense moves

I really really really want to see Yrene teaching little kids who come to train as healers how to defend themselves. I want to see Chaol roaming around the healer school and stumble across Yrene training little kids, and in the moments he watches her fight him, he realises where he has seen those moves before, who has done those moves before, Celaena. It doesn’t make sense to him at first as to why a healer would know Celaena, but hasn’t she mentioned she wanted to be a healer before, maybe he will catch on to this.

back to the other thought

Celaena gave a whole heap of gold to Yrene to become a healer and a necklace.

I want to see Yrene wearing that necklace. Even better, I want Chaol to ask about it and for Yrene to explain how she got it. Then Chaol will connect the dots and bam! He admits that he likes Celaena again, not loves (because Rowan is better) but likes and understands her.

In the Assassin and the Desert Ansel explains to Celaena that she once met an irontooth witch and that the witch told her to go train as an assassin

Anyone want to bet this witch was astrien cause same! Although this won’t come into play during Tower of Dawn because Ansel will not be here

Ansel also explained that Lord Loch killed her father and sister

I also want to bet that Lord Loch has something to do with Elide Lochan, in particular her uncle who didn’t allow for her leg to be healed properly. OH MY GOD can chaol please bring Yrene with her and an army to help save Celaena. Yrene can then fix Elides leg.

Edit: I just found out from my Empire of Storms read that Ansel killed Lord Loch who is not related to Uncle Lochan. Why must characters have similar names?????

Throne of Glass

I didn’t find much detail

Crown of Midnight

I’m thinking maybe Chaol could go an take back his title from is little brother (???)

Heir of Fire

I (re)discovered in this book that there is also a healer academy over in Wendlyn. I’m thinking maybe the healer place Chaol is going to might talk about this school and the two can team up and save Celaena and the rest of the world.

Also in this book Dorian told Chaol a lot (and I mean a lot) that he needs to move forward and adapt so I’m hoping something happens as Chaol goes through this book, that he snaps into place and realizes things are changing. (Also how cool would it be if he had magic???)

Queen of Shadows

Okay so I paid some attention this time around and realised Elide does in fact have magic abilities. I am thinking they will be water as Elide is related to Aelin through their mothers (and Aelin’s mum had water, I remember that being mentioned somewhere).

In the south, aka where Chaol is headed, Nesyrn’s family lives. So I am hoping that will help them build a army.

What are your theories on Tower Of Dawn? I would love to hear them.

Chapters 43-46

Spoilers ahead for ACOTAR (the entire thing)

I’m not crying, You’re crying!

So the book is finished, and if you are like me (aka cries over every single emotion ever) you might be upset for reasons you do not know (I’m not crying as such, but close to it)

A lot of things went down.

For one, I DID NOT KNOW TAMLIN’S HEART WAS STONE. I have never ever realised that. NEVER. The past two times I’ve read the book, I thought he lived because it was part of the deal that he had to live. Clearly, I need to pay more attention.

Tamlin has also started to think about ways to get Feyre out of her deal with Rhysand, which I think good, considering he didn’t even try to kill Amarantha until he had all his powers back. Serious Tamlin, Rhysand even tried with the dagger. I get it, you were healing maybe (?) But as far as I’m thinking, you could have thrown the dagger yourself.

Onto Rhysand. That stumble at the end…

But Rhysand also proves himself big time. He was the one yelling Feyre’s name not Tamlin in the end. He was the one who tried to kill Amarantha even when he didn’t have all of his powers.

Plus this bargain thing. Feyre is able to see through Rhysand’s eyes sometimes, interesting…

Let’s step back a moment, remember the two shinny figures in the garden eons ago. I was thinking maybe they are Alis nephews again, only because at the end they are described a such. But they could be, because they were living far away. So I will still be looking out for that.

There isn’t really much more to say, Oh wait a second, there is AMARANTHA’S RING AND NECKLACE. Feyre says they could not find them. Where are they?????

I think that is it if you want to talk a bit more about this series send me a message on instagram (@_queenofthebooks_)

Chapters 40-42

Spoilers ahead for ACOTAR chapters 1-42

I don’t have much to say today. I can’t really get over the fact that Tamlin wasted his one opportunity with Feyre to make out with her. I MEAN COME ON TAMLIN, I’m quite sure you could have maybe tried to find a way out! Given Feyre some motivational speech. Rhysand it doing better at keeping Feyre’s hopes up then you are.

As for Rhysand, that scene where he kisses licks (?) Feyre’s tears away. Although, a little gross, it helped her get her mind off things, If he hadn’t come in she probably would have cried all night long.

Plus the next time he is in her room he admits some things! First, he does not like Amarantha. Second, he does not plan on doing anything to Feyre that Amarantha makes him do. And there is more, but I’m not focusing on that right now.

Okay so the part with the shadow girls, I am now on the look out for any character that laughs like a pig. Because the Attor was talking to someone who laughed like that, and I want to know who it is.

Third test is coming up, got to go read

Chapters 37-39

Spoilers ahead for ACOTAR chapters 1-39

Many things went down in these chapters, should I start with Rhysand? I’m going to start with Rhysand.

First, I completely forgot about how mean Rhysand was to Feyre with her arm! HE TWISTED THE BONE!! Painful much! I was practically screaming and it wasn’t even happening to me. I know he might have his reasons, but really? Really, Rhysand? You you not just have threatened Feyre with the fact she would die of disease again?

But I do also think it was kind of nice of him to even offer a deal and to invite/ force Feyre to the night time events. I mean, it might suck she is embarrassed, but at least he is ensuring she is getting good food and is a way that she doesn’t have to sit in her cell each night and run herself made about the riddles.

Onto Lucien, he gave Feyre is jacket/ the jacket he stole from the guard. That was rather nice of him. Plus he told Feyre he was going to look out for her, I am most certainly liking him more than I used to.

Tamlin, is still being annoying with the whole no talking, no emotion thing, but I suppose he has his reasons to.

Now, Amarantha makes a comment once she figures out Feyre’s name:

“An old name – from our early dialects”

I just have feelings Feyre is different and I cannot help but wonder if these are hints.

OH MY GOODNESS, the girls and I, in our @chapter.chat have made some discoveries. None of which I can share without spoiling things in ACOMAF… but if you want to know just message me on instagram (@_queenofthebooks_)

Chapters 34-36

Spoilers ahead for ACOTAR chapters 1-36

remember a while ago I said I think Lucien has more power than he is letting on? Because Feyre commented on the fact she thought Lucien had a lot of power considering Amarantha took it away. But then again, I guess Amarantha had given him back some of his abilities so she could convince Tamlin to be with her.

Speaking of Tamlin, is it possible he is mates with Amarantha and that is why she is trying so hard to have him as her lover? Maybe he isn’t accepting the mating bond and that is why Amarantha is being so pushy.

Lucien has again proven a good friend to Feyre, three times in these chapters actually. He refused to give Feyre’s name up, helped heal her broken nose and yelled out where the worm was. TAMLIN WHERE YOU AT? I do understand he is trying to play it off as he doesn’t love her so that Amarantha will possibly stop (?) do you really think that will work Tamlin? because I don’t, you could just tell Feyre where the worm is next time.

Okay, also, a couple of discussions back I said Feyre had a nightmare about a Lady with red fingernails, I’m thinking it’s Amarantha. Although nothing has been said on her fingernails, her hair is red and feyre continues to comment on how Amarantha suits red.

*Also to correct my statement yesterday, Feyre’s mum had typhus not typhoid. (the difference is one is flea-borne and the other is food-borne)*

Talk to you tomorrow,
